I just watched my friend Genevieve Wood on Fox News explaining the “radical right” position on Harriet Miers and she pointed something out that I thought was perfect.

She is glad to be a part of a party where people don’t feel like they have to “tow the party line.”

I completely agree.

As readers of this blog are aware, I was in DC last week on completely unrelated business. However, the circles we were running around in would bring the SCOTUS nominee topic up as side conversation.

What I appreciated about my conservative friends is that they weren’t a bit angry, defensive or even bent out of shape over Miers. They were genuinely concerned about Miers actually being qualified for the position. In maybe 5 different conversations that happened over three days, I don’t even remember hearing the normally expected litmus test of abortion. While they love and trust the President, we will have to live with the next Supreme Court Justice longer than the three years he has left in office.

Ann Coulter is on Fox as I type and she is going out of her way to say she is not gloating. I really really hope those who opposed Miers don’t do that.

The blogosphere is a blogga swarmin’ over the whole thing (of course.)

Here are just a few …
